Io uccido” è il primo romanzo di Giorgio Faletti, un racconto thriller dai toni molto forti. Il protagonista della storia è Frank Ottobre, agente dell’FBI, temporaneamente in congedo dopo il suicidio di sua moglie. Una ferita tremenda che torna continuamente a tormentare la mente dell’agente, oppresso dal senso di colpa. Per allontanarsi dalla triste aria di casa, Frank si reca nel Principato di Monaco, dove vive un suo amico, il commissario Nicolas Hulot, con il quale inizierà un’indagine molto complicata.

Nel Principato, infatti, poco dopo il Gran Premio di Formula Uno, vengono trovati i cadaveri del pilota Jochen Welder, e della sua fidanzata Arijane Parker, campionessa di scacchi. L’omicida ha orrendamente mutilato i corpi, asportando la pelle del viso da entrambe le vittime, e ha tracciato con il sangue la frase “Io uccido”.



Le indagini dei commissari iniziano proprio da questa frase: prima del Gran Premio un radio ascoltatore aveva telefonato alla trasmissione in onda su Radio Monte Carlo, condotta dal dj Jean-Loup Verdier. La voce al telefono diceva di chiamarsi “Uno e Nessuno” e aveva palesato la sua volontà di trasformarsi in un killer, chiudendo la sua telefonata con l’affermazione “Io uccido”.

Da qui in poi Nicolas Hulot e Frank Ottobre ingaggeranno una vera e propria sfida con il serial killer, chiamato “Nessuno”, che prima di ogni delitto, telefonerà nella trasmissione di Jean-Loup Verdier, lasciando contorti indizi, e sfidando la polizia scrivendo con il sangue delle sue vittime, sui luoghi del delitto, il suo infame marchio: “Io uccido”.
